Questions to the SUFC Board
Iron Trust members want transparency from the club board
Iron Trust members have been contacting us expressing their concerns about the future of SUFC. Fans feel that there is a need for greater clarity and transparency over the position the club is in at present. They have posed a number of questions including the following:-
1. Has the deal to sell the club to the individual/group that had passed the FA “owners and directors test” now fallen?
2. How far has the proposed “deal” which has been mentioned with the local businessmen progressed?
(We note that Peter Swann has touched on these today, since the questions were put together.)
3. Is the club still paying back the EFL loan money and if so on what terms?
4. Are there any other charges against the club?
5. The club has received money from the National League. At the current rate of spending when is it projected that the money will run out?
6. How will the club be financed once the National League money is used up?
One aim of appointing a fan director was to improve communication and transparency. The agreement between the club and the fan groups had as a purpose of the role “to develop the communication between the board and supporters, sharing as much information as possible with the supporter groups and the wider fan base.” During discussions about the role the then Chairman suggested that financial information could probably be shared.
In recent weeks there has been no information from the SUFC board/owners and we have been informed that the SUFC board has not met during August. The Chairman and Secretary of the Iron Trust have recently met with Neil Wright and have asked him to raise the questions above with the SUFC board/owner of behalf of SUFC fans.
Tony Gosling, Chairman of the Trust, said “Fans are rightly concerned about the state the club is in at present. They want answers from the owners that will reassure them about the long term future of their club.”
