Another example of what it means to be a fan
We’ve asked members of the Trust to share with us a few lines about their history of supporting the Iron. It can be many years of unwavering support or it can just a few years, they will have special memories. They all have one thing in common. Once an Iron, always an Iron.
Roy Bell shared with us a few of his memories and as you read them you wil also recall that reat day at Hillsborough (or you can ask your dad/grandad who you can be sure will remember)
In Roy’ case, he’s nowadays a Cyrprus Iron
As a new member of the Iron Trust, I just wanted to share are a few memories of my life as an Iron Fan. My Dad took me to my first game when I was 5 years old (I am now 71) and have been an Iron Fan ever since.
I took my 2 boys to their first game many years ago and they were hooked from day one, and have been avid fans from that day!
My favourite players back then were Geoff Barnard, Nigel Cassidy and Dave Hill
One game that is forever in my mind, is the away win at Sheffield Wednesday when Nigel scored the winning goal in a 2 – 1 win (what a day)!. I also remember going to Gainsborough Trinity, when George Kerr broke his leg (sad day)!
I don’t get to games these days as I live in Cyprus, but on the odd occasion when I visit, “Blighty”, I go to see the Iron play with my sons Nick and Jason. I follow all the games and results on Social Media. Plus my son Nick keeps me up to date with all things United.
Keep up the good work Iron Trust.
Up the Iron!
Best Wishes
Roy Bell (For ever an Iron Fan – Cyprus Iron).
